17U Wildcats Go 3-1 In Perfect Game Underclass Showcase!

The Wildcats ended the fall exposure tournament season with a great showing at the World Wood Bat tournament hosted by Perfect Game Baseball in Ft. Myers, Florida and the major league complexes of the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox. This tournament is billed as the to underclass showcase tournament in the Country, and there were college coaches from all over the U.S. at the games, with several colleges in attendance at each of the DTA games.
DTA finished the tournament with 3 wins against only 1 loss against top competition from teams in Florida and Georgia showing that a team from the North can compete on the National Level with teams from the South. DTA finished with the BEST winning percentage of teams from Illinois to include the powerhouse (Schaumburg Seminoles 2-2 and Longshots 2-1-1).
Wildcats started the tournament with a game against the Orlando Scorpions, one of the top programs in the state of Florida. DTA jumed out to a quick 3-0 lead on the Scorpions, only to see them chip away and eventually beat DTA 8-5 in a hard fought game.

Craig Berberich started the game for the Cats and held the Scorpions in check for most of the game pitching a gem of a game at the Florida Gulf Coast University Stadium. Chris Hipchen and Ryan Shaffrey had doubles for the CATS offense.
The second game saw the CATS take on the Homeplate Chilidogs, one of the top programs other than East Cobb in Georgia. Isac Greenspon pitched 5 strong innings for the CATS allowing the Chilidogs to jump out to a 3-0 lead, and then 4-1 before the Wildcats finally put together some hits and run support to jump on top by a 7-4 lead. Tony Rallo, John Schram and Ryan Kramer came up with big hits in the inning to propel the Cats into the lead. Another 3 runs in the 7th pushed the lead to 10-4 and the score ended at 10-4 in favor of the CATS. Eric Stout came up big for the Wildcats with 2 2/3 innings of no hit relief to get the win while coming u with 3 hits in the game.
The Third game of the tournament was played at the City Of Palms Stadium, which is the home field of the Boston Red Sox spring training complex and was a match-up between the South Florida Bandits and the DTA Wildcats. The bats came to life early and the CATS jumped out to an early lead that would propel them to a 7-1 win. Chris Hichen was the offensive star with 3 hits while Ryan Kramer pitched 5 innings of no hit ball and solid team defense with a nice 5-4-3 double play by Mike Monaghan, Nathan Halas and Tony Rallo. | Wildcats bats power DuPage to 7-1 victory

In the final game of pool play in City Of Palms Stadium the DuPage Wildcats cruised to a 7-1 victory over the South Florida Bandits. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead as each of their first three batters to come to the plate for DuPage scored while 2011 LHP Ryan Kramer of Wheaton Academy, cruised through 5 shutout innings to earn the victory.
Kramer was very efficient, allowing just 2 base runners, both via walk over his five no-hit innings of shutout ball. Kramer featured an 80 MPH fastball with good movement, a big breaking 64 MPH Curve Ball a 69 MPH Changeup that kept the Bandits' hitters off-balance throughout. Kramer was relieved in the 6th by Chris Hipchen, 2011 OF/RHP from Geneva HS in Geneva, IL. Hipchen turned in a solid 2 innings of relief to close it out following a huge day at the late which saw him go 3-for-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI and a Stolen Base. Hichen showed good bat speed and pop, driving an RBI double to deep left field to open the flood-gates in the first inning.

The 4th game of the tournament featured the CATS vs. Deep South Florida at the Twins minor league complex. Ben Krusen started on the mound for the CATS and despite striking out the side in the first inning, the CATS were down early 3-0. A single by stout, a W and an RBI single by Ben Krusen cut the lead to 3-1. Ben then settled in and gave up no runs over the next 3 innings while striking out 8 in 4 innings. The CATS jumped on the board for 4 runs in the second on big RBI hits by Michael Monaghan and Chris Hipchen. Hipchen also came in and pitched 2 innings of scoreless ball and Craig Berberich came in and closed the door with a 1-2-3 7th inning and the CATS finished with a 5-3 victory.
